Join Educators for Reich!

Maintaining our commitment to education, even in times of fiscal crisis, is vitally important to improving the welfare and success of our future and our children’s future. Education is the backbone to providing all citizens in Massachusetts with the tools to learn, develop and become contributing members to our society.

Educators for Reich is a growing group of school teachers, administrators and educational community members who support Bob's commitment and vision to provide a world-class educational system, deliver 21st century skills training, and just as importantly, lead a government as good as the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Supporting Education in the Commonwealth

We rank in the bottom third of the nation in teachers' salaries relative to the cost of living here. The average salary of a Massachusetts teacher with a bachelor's degree is $10,400 less than the average salary of employees with a comparable education who are in other professions. Yet education is vitally important to our society; it is the institution we rely on to allow every person in the Commonwealth to make the most of their talents and abilities, and to become a contributing member of society. According to the non-partisan thinktank MassINC, almost one out of three working people in Massachusetts is unprepared for the work of the 21st century. Our state’s businesses are dependent on this group of working people. There’s simply no way our businesses can be competitive and innovative in the future unless a greater proportion of our workforce has a higher level of skills. The economy depends on our people, on their education and their skills, and on the value they can add to an increasingly global economy.

We must better support our educators and our schools by providing the resources necessary for development and growth. If we want excellent, talented, dedicated people in our classrooms, we must reward teaching and treat teachers as what they truly are: members of one of the most important professions in our society. We cannot allow budgetary problems to subject our students –our future— to the ebbs and flows of the economy.

We must enable every individual in the Commonwealth to make the most of their talents and abilities. That means affordable pre-schools; K-12 schools that are held accountable for results and whose teachers are paid enough to attract talented people to the classroom; community colleges that teach skills that businesses require; and the best universities in America. Progress has been made, but not nearly enough.

Some question whether we can afford excellence in education. I reply that Massachusetts, whose greatest natural resource is brainpower, cannot afford mediocrity in our schools. As we set the economy right, and revenues rise, we must invest in the foundation of our future prosperity – opening the doors of quality education to every child.
